Sleep under the stars - The ecotourism experience

Bivouac camping is a unique opportunity to feel like a real Bedouin in Wadi Rum desert. Imagine falling asleep while stargazing and waking up to just the light sound of birds in their morning chirp. And anything else is silent. The air is refreshing as the sun rises casting its light on the sandstone mountains of Wadi Rum …

Bivouac camping

It is a unique opportunity to unwind, eat and sleep in a ‘cave’ in the desert. A wonderful landscape away from the busy world. 100% nature. 100% ecotourism. Managed by real desert-born guides from the Zalabieh tribe. And for sure a night in the desert will be the highlight of your visit to Wadi Rum.

How bivouac camping works

For the bivouac we’ll be heading to a ”tor”. It’s an overhanging rock that protects from sun, rain and wind. Besides our own ‘cave’ we have a couple of other locations where we also do bivouac camping. Where you will sleep depends on your tour program and availabilities in high season.

If you explore the area close to the bivouac you’ll feel like on another planet (did you watch The Martian, Star Wars – Rogue One or Dune movie ?).
And you will have the opportunity to watch an unforgettable sunset.

Your guides will prepare tea and cook a traditional hearty Bedouin dinner around the campfire. Afterwards, we all spend the evening around the wood fire. We can tell you about Bedouin culture, our past and present life. Or you can just gaze into the starry night sky and enjoy the peaceful silence of the desert.

Once it is time to sleep we will organize the mattresses on a carpet and provide you with your blankets. A tent is available if needed. We also provide water for drink and for the toilet.

The next morning you can wake up to the rising sun. We prepare you a breakfast around the campfire. After that, we either continue your tour or return to Rum village.

Such a way to spend the night is real eco-tourism. There is no building. No waste left in the desert. Plenty of time to share the bedouin life with your desert-born guide.

Tip : If you don’t begin with the guided tour, we strongly advise to arrive at least one hour before sunset to take advantage of it.
